Beam Me Up: The Future of TV Sports Streaming

Sports has always been television’s crown jewel, driving subscriptions, advertising, and cultural conversation. But in the era of smart TVs and streaming, the experience of watching live games is being redefined. Platforms are moving away from traditional linear broadcasts to fully interactive environments. Instead of simply tuning in, fans are now immersed in multi-camera angles, real-time statistics, and customizable feeds—turning passive viewing into an active, personalized experience.

Smart TVs and connected devices allow viewers to overlay fantasy league stats, bet live on outcomes, or even join watch parties with friends across the globe. Broadcasters and leagues are experimenting with augmented reality graphics, instant replay on demand, and “choose your camera” features. This interactive shift creates new monetization opportunities—from micro-transactions for premium feeds to in-stream e-commerce where fans can buy team merchandise while watching.

The competition for sports rights is intensifying. Tech giants like Amazon, Apple, and Google are challenging legacy broadcasters by investing billions in exclusive streaming packages. This shift is reshaping the economics of sports media, with streaming platforms betting that sports can anchor subscriber growth the way it once secured cable bundles. At the same time, leagues are experimenting with direct-to-consumer models, bypassing traditional networks to retain more control and revenue.

The future of sports television blends immersion with community, where fans are no longer just spectators but participants. For the next generation of viewers, this fusion of technology and culture will define what it means to “watch the game".

Beam Me Up: AI Shoppable Ads Smart TV

The living room screen is no longer just a place to watch—it’s becoming a place to interact, discover, and shop. Smart TV platforms are evolving into powerful commercial engines, blending entertainment with AI-driven personalisation and next-generation shoppable ad formats. For viewers, this means more relevant content and offers. For advertisers and brands, it’s a revolution in audience engagement.

Artificial intelligence is quietly rewriting the playbook for how we consume TV. Recommendation engines now use AI models to learn a household’s viewing patterns, preferred genres, and even the time of day people watch. Instead of browsing endless menus, viewers are greeted with content tailored to their tastes—sometimes with uncanny accuracy.

Smart TV personalisation is moving from basic targeting to a true one-to-one experience. AI systems can identify subtle preferences, like a viewer’s interest in a certain actor, style of music, or sports team. This data allows streaming platforms to dynamically adjust everything—from the artwork used to promote a show to the ads shown during an episode.

Perhaps the most exciting innovation is the rise of shoppable ads. Using QR codes, on-screen product carousels, and integrated “buy now” options, viewers can purchase items without leaving the comfort of their couch. This merges entertainment and e-commerce in a way that feels seamless.

With the rise of AI, Silicon Valley is going all in on a new generation of startups that promise to radically change how products are made and sold. This time, they’re backing founders with tech chops and are more patient in helping them grow.

Phia, a shopping app that lets users compare prices across sites for both used and new items, was founded by Phoebe Gates, daughter of Bill and Melinda Gates, and Sophia Kianni. The platform, which launched in April, uses AI to help consumers find and compare prices on visually similar items.

Beam Me Up: The Future of AI Powers TV

In our latest podcast, we explored how Alexa, Siri, and now ChatGPT-5 from OpenAI are shaping the connected home — and why by 2030, AI on smart TVs will be as common as the remote control.

Early generative AI models hinted at a future where users could request on-demand, custom-tailored shows, sports commentary, or interactive stories, generated in real time. The shift from static, pre-produced programming to adaptive, AI-driven content promised to blur the line between viewer and creator. For marketers and streamers, this meant a new level of personalization — where advertising and storytelling could be dynamically shaped for each household, making the remote control less relevant than the AI agent interpreting your intent.

The arrival of conversational AI across smart TVs marks the next defining leap in how audiences navigate, search, and interact with content. With Google embedding Gemini into Google TV and Samsung reportedly aligning Tizen OS with OpenAI’s GPT stack, television is evolving from a passive interface into an intelligent companion—capable of reasoning, recommending, and responding in real time. This convergence of LLMs and connected-TV operating systems sets the stage for a new era of audience engagement, where discovery and dialogue share the same screen.

By 2030, these predictions suggest that AI on smart TVs will be as ubiquitous and invisible as the remote control itself. Instead of navigating apps and menus, you’ll simply speak, gesture, or even rely on the TV’s predictive capabilities to serve exactly what you want. Household AI agents, built on successors to Alexa, Siri, and ChatGPT-5, will integrate streaming services, home IoT devices, gaming platforms, and real-time data into one frictionless experience.

In this vision, the smart TV becomes more than an entertainment device — it evolves into the connected home’s primary operating system, redefining how we consume content, shop, and interact with the digital world.

Beam Me Up: Future of YouTube Creators

Today's blog Beam Me Up: The Future of Smart TV explores the Creator Economy on YouTube, TikTok Fandoms and FanOnly influencers coming to smart TV with mega-stars MrBeast.

In the last decade, the creator economy has moved from bedroom livestreams to billion-dollar media businesses. But now, the next leap is happening on the biggest screen in the house—Connected TV (CTV).

CTV platforms aren’t just for premium studios anymore—they’re becoming the new frontier for digital-first creators. Armed with loyal fan bases, these creators are bringing long-form storytelling, brand partnerships, and immersive audience experiences to a format once reserved for broadcasters.

Smart TV’s next big act is being shaped by the convergence of creators, fandoms, and fan-only influencers, marking a shift from passive viewing to participatory entertainment ecosystems. With platforms like YouTube, Twitch, and TikTok increasingly integrating into smart TV interfaces, creator-led content is breaking out of the small screen and into the living room.

The rise of creator-fueled fandoms on the big screen opens fresh opportunities for advertisers: seamless branded integrations, commerce-enabled video, and loyalty-driven campaigns inside fan ecosystems. The real prize lies in leveraging the intimacy and trust these creators have cultivated, turning prime-time smart TV slots into premium influencer marketing arenas.

As Netflix continues to grow its advertising business, video podcasts present a unique opportunity to expand its ad inventory in a format that viewers are already accustomed to seeing ads within. The platform could potentially offer advertisers more targeted and engaging opportunities than traditional pre-roll or mid-roll ads, while providing creators with more control over their ad inventory than they currently have on other platforms.
